Hannah and I went to a small music store called “Marimba” in Schildesche near Bielefeld today, and in the guitar corner I was pointed out a guitar from the maker “Kirkland” by another customer. Giving the folk instrument a short “test drive” I was amazed how much sound it produced for a relatively moderate price of 290€, definitely a guitar brand to keep an eye or two on.
Sadly, this model had no pickup (which would add another 140€ or so to the bill), but it really had a very nice, full-bodied sound.
i picked up a slim body shaped back Kirkland (model 215061) in a shop in Riga; it’s a 67cm scale acoustic and has a pickup w/EQ, all for about 200 U.S.$. Tho just a little soundboard slat heavy and in general slightly overbuilt, it could otherwise be a 1000$ guitar, easy. That the brand is German designed &produced &mostly marketed in the orient, is about all I’ve been able to garner from the internet. A great find!
Hi Darko,
I am from Queensland Australia and walked into a great little music store in Lorrach Germany and brought the same guitar kirkland model No 215034 around June 2010. Had been looking for something small but with a big sound. The quality is amazing paid about euro/250
I have just bought a used Kirkland 215034 in mint condition and only paid £30 for it – Yes, that is not a typo and it is Electro-Acoustic!
What a great little guitar it is too.
I have had many guitars over the past fifty years and can honestly say that you get a far superior instrument now for a small amount of money than ever before.
Don’t pay too much attention to those who are blinded by a “Big Name” very expensive branding.
This is a great quality little guitar with a big sound and it will long outlive me!
