{"id":668,"date":"2016-01-22T16:23:40","date_gmt":"2016-01-22T15:23:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hoover.gplrank.de\/?p=668"},"modified":"2016-01-22T16:25:45","modified_gmt":"2016-01-22T15:25:45","slug":"comet-catalina-check","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hoover.gplrank.de\/?p=668","title":{"rendered":"Comet Catalina&#8230; check ;-)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This morning I woke up a bit earlier than usual and decided to take a stab at observing, or at least glancing, comet C\/2013 US10 &#8220;Catalina&#8221; which has put up quite a show over the recent couple of days:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hoover.gplrank.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/comet-catalina-pinwheel-galaxy.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-670\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-670\" src=\"https:\/\/hoover.gplrank.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/comet-catalina-pinwheel-galaxy.jpg\" alt=\"comet-catalina-pinwheel-galaxy\" width=\"730\" height=\"484\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>(This image has been taken from spaceweather.com and was taken by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/spaceweathergallery.com\/indiv_upload.php?upload_id=121954&amp;PHPSESSID=7eofk8bnku4bv1tfjpr1tcqv07\" target=\"_blank\">Yasushi Aoshima<\/a> a few days ago).<\/p>\n<p>After about five minutes or so I managed to spot the comet in my 15&#215;70 Celestron SkyMaster binos around here:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hoover.gplrank.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/catalina.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-669\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-669\" src=\"https:\/\/hoover.gplrank.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/catalina.jpg\" alt=\"catalina\" width=\"1280\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The comet was much dimmer than I had expected it to be, maybe a case of very low surface brightness, but it&#8217;s still a great feeling to have seen a celestial body that&#8217;s bound for interstellar space once it completes its swing around our central star&#8230; puts stuff into perspective really.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This morning I woke up a bit earlier than usual and decided to take a stab at observing, or at least glancing, comet C\/2013 US10 &#8220;Catalina&#8221; which has put up quite a show over the recent couple of days: (This image has been taken from spaceweather.com and was taken by\u00a0Yasushi Aoshima a few days ago).
